How does a dentist whiten teeth?

There are three whitening techniques that can be performed at the dentist's.

  • A one-hour appointment in which the dentist applies a whitening gel containing high concentrations of peroxide, ensuring the gums are protected.
  • Custom-made mouth trays in which the patient places the peroxide gel and then wears them every day for one to two weeks, for as little as an hour a day, or overnight at the longest.
  • A combination of both techniques: first phase at the dentist's followed up with gel and mouth trays at home.
