Taking care of your teeth with xerostomia

Suffering from dry mouth exposes teeth and gums to dental plaque and the resulting complications: tooth decay, gingivitis, periodontitis, bad breath, etc. How can you look after your oral hygiene without making a dry mouth worse?

Fighting dental plaque

Fighting the film of bacteria that builds up on the teeth and gums (dental plaque) starts with regular brushing (after each meal) with a suitable toothpaste and toothbrush, using dental floss or interdental brushes to clean the interdental spaces, and using cleansing mouthwashes.

Choose an ultra-soft toothbrush

To avoid damaging the gums and oral mucosa when brushing the teeth, it is better to use a toothbrush that has soft bristles with rounded tips. The INAVA Sensitive toothbrush is ideal for this condition, as it has bristles that taper from a diameter of 0.18 mm at the base to just 0.01 mm at the tip.

Use a low-abrasion toothpaste

A dry mouth should not be made worse by using an excessively abrasive toothpaste. It is better if it is fluoridated, to further protect the enamel and inhibit the proliferation of bacteria in dental plaque.
Preferably choose a gel for people with sensitive gums, to be used every day, such as ARTHRODONT Protect fluoride gel.

Use impregnated dental floss

In the case of dry mouth, an impregnated dental floss should ideally be used to complement the action of brushing and to fight dental plaque in the spaces between the teeth that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush. INAVA Dentofil Chlorhexidine is well-suited to maintain good oral hygiene for people with dry mouth.
